About this book

Hospital gowns are among the most frequently used textiles in healthcare, yet procurement decisions are often made on cost alone, without understanding the performance standards that matter. This handbook provides the practical knowledge healthcare professionals and supply chain managers need to specify, evaluate, and procure hospital gowns as engineered medical products.

Covering fabric composition and barrier performance, regulatory standards and compliance testing, reusable versus disposable economics, infection control requirements, and real-world usage patterns, this book bridges the gap between clinical requirements and procurement practice. Whether you're evaluating gown specifications, implementing a new laundry system, building a supply contract, or launching a medical textile business, you'll find concrete guidance on material properties, performance standards, industry certification, and vendor evaluation.

Written for healthcare procurement professionals, facility managers, infection control specialists, and medical supply distributors, this is the reference that replaces scattered manufacturer data sheets and clinical guidelines with a single, standards-based source.

★★★★

I've been a procurement officer for eight years and never found a single reference that actually explained the difference between AAMI Level 2 and Level 3 gowns in language that made sense for our purchasing decisions. This book does exactly that—it covers the standards, the testing methods, the real fabric behavior under clinical conditions, and how that translates to cost per use. One minor quibble: the vendor list in Chapter 6 is already slightly dated given how many regional suppliers there are, but the framework for evaluating suppliers is solid and will hold up.
