About this book

If you've ever stood in a grocery store staring at a bag of rice or a raw chicken breast and felt completely lost, this guide is for you. The Purple Guide to Learning Cooking in 10 Days is not an encyclopedia, and it's not a get-rich-quick scheme for becoming a Michelin-starred chef. It's a straight-talking, day-by-day plan for someone who has never cooked a savory meal in their life. You'll learn by doing, not by reading chapters of theory. Each day walks you through one specific, small, achievable task — from chopping an onion to making a pan sauce — so that the skill builds naturally without overwhelming you.

I was honestly skeptical because my kitchen experience is basically boiling water. The First Day chapter had me chop an onion and cook it with butter, which sounds stupidly simple, but I actually learned something about heat. The guide is pretty bare-bones though, and I wish some of the later days had as much specific detail as Day 1. Still, it got me to cook three meals on my own, which is three more than I've made in my adult life. That's a win.
