About this book

Most wine rack advice comes from marketers or hobbyists. This handbook is the reference we wish existed on the job site and behind the counter. It starts with the fundamentals of wine storage—why temperature, humidity, and light matter—and how a rack's design and materials interact with those conditions. Then it gets to the specifications: what distinguishes a rack that will hold a commercial inventory for decades versus one that will sag or corrode in five years. It covers the real decisions about wood types, metal gauges, modularity, load capacity, and bottle orientation.

I found this handbook genuinely useful for my restaurant's 1,000-bottle cellar project, and I appreciated that it avoids the usual marketing fluff. The chapter on understanding wine racks gets down to the actual physics of why you need a buffer material between bottles and where you can get away with cheaper metal shelving. But I wish the installation chapter went deeper on seismic anchoring for earthquake zones, which is a major concern for us in California, and the brand chapter felt a little thin on specifics. It's a good start, but it reads more like a solid primer that points you in the right direction rather than a complete manual for a complex commercial build.
