About this book

A thermal imager is only as good as the accessories that support it. A flimsy mount introduces boresight shift at the worst moment. A lens cap with an incompatible filter thread lets dust settle on a sensitive germanium element. An undervolted battery pack shuts down your unit during a critical observation. This handbook was written for the professional and serious enthusiast who wants to eliminate these failures and get the most from their thermal equipment.

Inside, you will find a systematic breakdown of every major accessory category: protective covers, mounts and adapters, external power solutions, magnifiers and boosters, recording and streaming devices, and calibration tools. Each chapter provides concrete specifications, manufacturer-neutral selection criteria, step-by-step installation procedures, and diagnostic guides for the most common problems. The maintenance chapters are built from real-world field reports, not laboratory theory, and cover everything from cleaning contaminated optics to replacing sealing gaskets.

The final section addresses the business side: how the aftermarket accessory industry is structured, which brands target which price points, and how resellers, technicians, and consultants can carve out a profitable niche. This is the reference that should be on the workbench of every thermal optic owner, technician, and dealer.

★★★★★

This is a solid, dense reference, exactly what it claims to be. I appreciated the chapter on business opportunities and the maintenance section actually saved me from buying a new booster that I just needed to clean properly. The reason I'm not rating it higher: the writing is dry even for a technical handbook, and I felt the installation chapter could have used more diagrams. The text descriptions are clear enough, but I would have liked a few more visual aids. Still, for the price, it's a practical reference I'll keep on the shelf.
