I work in a small practice and was hoping for something to cut through the marketing from the big suppliers. There's definitely useful information here, and the chapter on types and specs is solid. But I found the chapter on maintenance and troubleshooting to be a bit basic, and I wish it had more direct recommendations for specific brands or products. It feels a little too academic for the price, but I'll keep it on the shelf for when our lead hygienist has a question.

As someone who's newer to practice management, the decision-framework chapter alone was worth the price. The way they broke down the cost-per-use versus the price-per-jar was a real eye-opener for our budget. I also appreciated the chapter on business opportunities, which I hadn't considered. I took off one star because the troubleshooting section could be expanded with a few more 'this is exactly what we see' examples. Overall, a very useful, no-hype reference.

Finally, a book that treats us like professionals instead of consumers. The clinical detail is spot-on, and I especially valued the clear explanation of how the different abrasive particles actually work on the tooth surface. It has changed how I evaluate the claims on a new jar. This is the definitive guide. It's already earned its place on my desk, and I've even recommended it to the dentists I temp for.

A comprehensive and well-organized book. I read it cover to cover over a couple of weekends. The writing is clear and direct, just like you'd expect from a serious reference work. The chapter on choosing the right paste is incredibly practical. I do wish they had included a few more photographs or diagrams in the usage section; some of the verbal descriptions of angulation and pressure were a bit dense. Still, it's a very solid resource to have on hand.

I've already used the chapter on private-labeling to start a conversation with a manufacturer. It's detailed, realistic, and completely without fluff. I'll be honest, I'm a dental assistant and this felt like overkill for what I need on a daily basis. The chemistry sections in Chapter 1 are interesting, but I was hoping for more practical 'how-to' content and less theory. The glossary is helpful, and the business section is interesting, but it feels like it was written more for a dental grad student or a consultant than for people at the chair. It was a fair read, but not what I expected.
