The chapter on installation is good, but the real value for me was the maintenance chapter - the troubleshooting flowchart for no-boot issues alone saved me hours this week. It’s refreshing to read a tech book that treats the reader like a professional.

It’s a solid, thorough guide, but I have my reservations. The book gets a bit too deep into the weeds on specification minutiae and not enough on, say, the practical differences between brands in terms of reliability. The business opportunities chapter also feels a bit out of place in a reference handbook. Still, for the core information on compatibility and installation, it’s very useful. Hopefully a second edition will tighten the focus.

It’s good, but I didn’t love it. As a hobbyist, I found the first few chapters on understanding parts and specifications very informative, but the book often reads more like a textbook than a handbook. The tone is consistent and authoritative, which is nice, but it can be a bit dry. I can see this being perfect for someone in IT procurement, but for a general enthusiast, I think a more practical, project-based approach might have made it more engaging.

The book also has a slight bias towards business/enterprise use cases, which is fine, but I’d love to see more coverage of boutique and performance parts in a future update. Still, a very smart purchase.
