About this book

The golf towel is often dismissed as an afterthought of the game, yet for the player who has felt the costly slip of a sweaty grip on the 16th hole, or the course manager who has seen equipment prematurely degrade from improper moisture control, it is a small tool with outsized consequences. This handbook provides the definitive, practical reference for anyone who buys, sells, or relies on golf towels. It moves far beyond the retail shelf, delving into the technicalities of materials like microfiber weights, terry cloth loop density, and the chemical properties of antimicrobial treatments, and connecting these specs directly to playing performance and equipment longevity.

Structured for efficient consultation, the book guides the reader from a foundational understanding of the category, through a detailed breakdown of types and specifications, to a decision-making framework for choosing the right product for a specific need whether that is a 100-yard caddie towel for a premium club or a bulk order of microfiber towels for a driving range. Dedicated chapters cover correct installation and daily usage, as well as routine maintenance and troubleshooting for common issues like odor retention and stitching failure. For the entrepreneurial reader, there is a comprehensive overview of the supply chain, brand positioning, and concrete opportunities in reselling, private labeling, and rental services, complemented by an analysis of future trends and a curated list of expert resources.

Written in a neutral, educational tone and packed with concrete examples and data, The Complete Handbook of Golf Towels is the essential resource for golf professionals, business owners, and serious enthusiasts who require practical knowledge, not marketing stories.

I picked this up hoping for a bit more depth on the business side, which it does cover, but I found the early chapters a little dry. That said, the chapter on material specs is genuinely useful - I never knew what GSM meant before, and the comparison of microfiber to cotton is spot on. As a range operator, the maintenance chapter saved me from throwing out a batch of towels that had gone stiff. It's more of a textbook than a quick read, but it earned its place on my shelf.

This book is very thorough, almost to a fault. I skipped a lot of the brand breakdowns, but the sections on actual towel construction - like why a certain stitching density prevents fraying - are excellent. I appreciated that it's not trying to sell you anything, and the guide to using clips vs. straps was more involved than I expected. A bit dense in places, but if you're buying towels for a club or league, it's worth the effort.
