I bought this hoping for a clearer explanation of wall-mounted reel capacity than the manufacturer websites give you, and it does deliver on that. The chapter on types and specifications is mostly solid. I was a bit disappointed that Chapter 4 on installation didn't cover mounting on a hollow wall in much detail, which is a pretty common situation. It's a good reference, but I would have liked a bit more practical detail on tricky wall materials.

As a landscaper, I already knew some of this from trial and error, but it's nice to have the material properties and load specs written down. The maintenance chapter is probably the most useful part for me. However, I felt the chapter on brands and business opportunities was a bit thin and read more like a list of categories than advice I could act on. It's a worthwhile reference for the price, but manage your expectations if you want to start a business based on this alone.

The chapter on understanding hose storage was a surprisingly good read, actually explaining the mechanics of kinking and how the storage method affects the hose. It gave me a few ideas for rethinking how we set up our rear garden. I took one star off because the troubleshooting section only outlines the most common problems and doesn't cover some of the more annoying, slow leaks you get with cheaper carts. Overall, a solid reference for the bookshelf.

Finally, a book that treats a practical subject with the seriousness it deserves. I manage a small housing complex, and the information on selecting the right cart capacity and understanding gear ratios has directly improved how we maintain our grounds. The installation chapter is worth the price alone, saving me from guessing with drill sizes and wall anchors. It is well-written, specific, and doesn't waste time with fluff. I expect this will become the standard reference.

I appreciate how the book doesn't assume you have a huge backyard. It gives specific advice for narrow side paths and small storage closets, which is often my problem. The details on UV resistance and material degradation in the specifications chapter are more useful than any product listing. I only wish the glossary was a bit bigger, since I had to flip back to it often. A very useful, if not exactly thrilling, read.

There's a lot of good information here about how to keep hoses from kinking and the differences between cart types. I read it to help choose a cart for our community garden. The problem is, it feels a little bit academic at times, and I would have liked more photos or diagrams to really see what the author means. The text descriptions are accurate, but a picture would have saved me a lot of time visualizing a few of the systems.

The breakdown of different hose reel mechanisms was the most valuable part for me, as a serious hobbyist who has bought the wrong ones in the past. The book clearly explains why a slow-rewind reel might be better for your back than a fast one, which is a real consideration. I gave it four stars mostly because I think the back cover blurb oversells the business opportunities section a bit, which is fine but not as deep as I hoped. Still a very good reference.
