The Complete Handbook of Bassoon Bocals
A practical reference for players, technicians, and dealers covering selection, setup, maintenance, and the business of bassoon bocals
by Alumigogo Books
non-fiction
The definitive practical reference on bassoon bocals: how they work, how to choose one, and how to keep it working.
About this book
From the student's first upgrade to the professional's search for a darker, more focused sound, the bocal is the most misunderstood and under-documented part of the bassoon. This handbook strips away the marketing jargon and gives you the mechanical and acoustical facts. You will learn how bore shape affects pitch and response, why different materials feel different, and how to measure and compare bocals with confidence.
Reader Reviews
Anthony Carter
β β β β βThis is the first book on bocals that actually reads like a repair manual, not a sales pitch. The chapter on understanding the bore taper was genuinely illuminating, and the maintenance section saved me the cost of a shop visit when my cork dried out. I docked one star because the brand comparison list was a bit thin on the budget European makers, but otherwise it's an excellent shop reference.
