That said, the maintenance and troubleshooting chapter saved me the cost of the book alone when I fixed a valve issue I'd been struggling with.

Finally, a practical reference that treats this stuff like engineering. I've been car camping for years, and the section on understanding how insulation interacts with conductive heat loss completely changed how I set up my sleeping system. The explanation of pump flow rates vs. pressure just clicked for me. I bought copies for my whole camping crew. This is the book I wish I had ten years ago. It's getting worn out from me flipping through it so much.

I took off one star, though, because I think the troubleshooting chapter could have been more exhaustive. Great resource for the practical side of the industry. The chapter on suppliers and business opportunities is worth the purchase price if you're in the rental or retail business. It makes you think about private-labeling and repair services as real revenue streams. The writing is factual and direct, which I prefer. It's not a sexy book, but it's a necessary one. My only gripe is I'd have liked a small fold-out chart or quick-reference card for pump specs.
