That is completely normal, and it is exactly why this chapter exists. Let's start by stripping the scary words off this thing and looking at what is actually in front of you.
"Non-syndromic intellectual disability" is a mouthful of a phrase that tells a doctor two things about you or your loved one. The first is that there are some difficulties with everyday intellectual functions, like problem-solving, learning new information, or understanding complex ideas. The second part - the "non-syndromic" bit - is actually the more useful detail. It means that these cognitive challenges are not attached to a bigger package of physical features or other health problems. In other words, you don't have a known syndrome like Down syndrome or Fragile X syndrome that comes with its own unique set of physical traits. You are just dealing with the brain piece, and that, believe it or not, simplifies things.
