Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome to day one. If you are reading this, you are probably standing somewhere with a skateboard nearby, or maybe you haven't even bought one yet and you are just curious what this is all about. That is completely fine. This first session is not about tricks, speed, or looking cool. It is about one thing only: getting comfortable with the idea that a skateboard is a thing you can stand on without falling over in the first three seconds.
Let me set your expectations right now, before we do anything else. After this first session, you will not be cruising down the street. You will not be able to kickflip, ollie, or even make a proper turn. What you will be able to do is stand on the board, feel your balance point, and possibly push yourself forward a few feet with some wobble and uncertainty. That is the entire goal of day one. That is a win. If you do that, you have done more than most people who own a skateboard have ever done.
Here is what your first session actually looks like. Find a flat, smooth, dry surface. A driveway, a garage floor, a basketball court, a quiet parking lot, or even a wide sidewalk that is not cracked to hell. Avoid grass for now — grass will stop the wheels, which sounds safe but actually makes the board unstable and hard to balance on. What you want is a hard, flat
