If you're reading this, you probably have a Rubik's Cube somewhere near you — maybe it's been sitting on a shelf for months, maybe you just picked one up at a store, maybe you're holding it right now and feeling a little nervous about what comes next. That nervousness is normal. Every single person who has ever solved a cube started exactly where you are: with a scrambled mess and no idea where to begin.

Let's be clear about what today is. This is not the day you learn to solve the whole cube. That's not a failure of this plan — it's just how this skill works. The first layer is the hardest part to learn because it introduces every concept you'll need, including a few that feel deeply unnatural when you first encounter them. Today, we're going to do one small thing, over and over, until it feels a little bit less weird. By the end of this session, you will have solved the white cross. That's a real, visible, satisfying achievement — and it's your only goal for today.

Before you do anything else, scramble your cube. Don't do it carefully, don't try to make it look "random enough" — just twist it in every direction a few times.
