Chapter 1: First Day

Welcome to day one. Here's the honest truth: you are not going to launch a rocket today. You're not even going to build the whole rocket. What you're going to do is something smaller but more important - you're going to set up your launch pad and feel what it's like to touch the pieces of a real model rocket kit. That's the win today, and it's enough.

Let's talk about what model rocketry actually is, in plain terms. A model rocket is a lightweight tube with a cardboard or plastic body, a plastic nose cone, and a small solid-fuel engine that gives it a good kick upward. You load that engine, insert a little pyrotechnic charge in the tube, and when the rocket reaches the top of its flight, that charge pops out a parachute, and the whole thing floats back down. It's not a toy, but it's also not rocket science - at least, not at this level. It's a precise, hands-on hobby where you do most of the work with your hands: gluing, twisting, inserting, inspecting.
