First Day
Let's be clear about what today is and what it isn't. Today is not about becoming a model builder. It's not about painting a masterpiece or gluing together a 500-piece tank. Today is about getting your hands on an actual model kit, opening the box, and figuring out what you're even looking at. That's it. That's the whole goal. And by the end of this session, you'll have completed your very first tiny step — snapping together a couple of parts — and you'll know for sure whether this hobby feels like something you want to poke at further.
Before you do anything else, you need to get your hands on the right kind of kit. This is important: do not walk into a hobby store and grab the first military vehicle or spaceship that catches your eye. Those kits are often labeled "advanced" or "skill level 4" and they come with hundreds of pieces, finicky parts smaller than a grain of rice, and a genuinely soul-destroying build order. For today, you want what model builders call a quick-assembly kit, or sometimes a "snap-fit" kit. These are designed for beginners and kids, but that's not a bad thing. They push together with light pressure — no glue needed — and they usually have no painting required on the box art.
