Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome. This is day one of a ten-day experiment: ten days to try copywriting, to see what it's actually like, and to figure out if it's something you might want to keep doing. Not to master it, not to get rich next week, but to try the craft in a real, hands-on way. By the end of today's session, you will have written something that looks and sounds like real copy - not a masterpiece, but a genuine piece of selling text. That's our goal for the next hour or so.
First, let's get the definition out of the way, because it's less scary than it sounds. Copywriting is the craft of writing words that persuade someone to do something - usually to buy a product, sign up for a newsletter, or click a button. It's the text on a website's "About" page, the subject line of a sales email, the caption under an ad on social media. If you've ever said "well, that ad made me laugh" or "that email almost made me click," then you've been exposed to copywriting at work. Good copywriting is just clear, purposeful writing with a job to do - and today, you're going to do that job.
