Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome. Close the door if you can, get rid of the distractions, and take a breath. This is day one, and it is not about making anything complicated or beautiful. It is about getting your hands dirty, or in this case, getting your hands covered in tiny pieces of glass, plastic, and maybe a stray seed bead that will roll onto the floor and vanish forever. That is fine. That is part of the experience.
You don't need to have bought anything special for today. I want you to rummage through your house, your junk drawer, or your craft closet. Do you have any old broken necklaces? Grab those. Are there some loose buttons with holes? Sure. Did your kid or your friend leave a bag of plastic pony beads behind from a summer camp project? Perfect. If you have nothing at all, that is okay too. Take a break in your afternoon and walk to the nearest craft store, big-box retailer, or even a thrift shop. You are looking for one single thing: a small assortment of beads with holes in them. That is it. Mismatched, ugly, or old is ideal. We are not admiring them. We are using them to train your fingers.
