Chapter 1: First Day

Welcome. If you're reading this, you probably have a shirt with a missing button, a pair of jeans with a frayed hem, or a favorite sweater with a small tear that you've been meaning to fix for months. You've also probably watched a few YouTube videos, stared at a sewing needle, and then put it all away because it felt more complicated than it was worth. Let's change that today.

This is the first day of a ten-day plan, but let's be honest about what today is not. Today is not about becoming a seamstress or a tailor. It's not about mastering any technique. It's not even about producing something beautiful. Today is about orienting yourself to the physical reality of sewing: what it feels like to hold a needle, to pull thread through fabric, to make a few stitches that actually hold. By the end of this session, you will have done one small, real mend. That's it. That's the win.

Before we start, let's talk about expectations. You will feel clumsy. Your fingers will not do what you want them to do. You'll probably prick yourself once or twice. That is completely normal. Sewing uses fine motor skills that you haven't practiced in this specific way. Your hands are relearning something new. Be patient with them. If you were learning to juggle, you wouldn't expect to keep three balls in the air on the first try. Same idea here.
