Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome. You're here because you've wondered what it might feel like to stand on your hands, and honestly, that's the only qualification you need for today. This first session is designed to take you from still full of doubt to having your first real, supported handstand hold. We are going to move slowly, get you used to being upside down, and end this session with a win you can actually feel in your body, not just a "good try."
Before we do anything else, let's set up your space. You need about six feet of clear wall, with nothing on the floor within arm's reach in any direction. You also want a wall that's not slippery and a floor that's not too hard - if you have a yoga mat, a thin exercise mat, or even a rug, put that down at the base of the wall. We are not doing anything explosive today, so you don't need gymnastics mats or padding, just enough to make your palms feel comfortable and give your knees a soft landing spot when you plop down.
Wear pants or shorts that let your legs move freely, and go barefoot if you can. Shoes are unstable under your hands. If you're wearing socks, take them off, because your hands need good grip on the floor. And take off any rings or bracelets. Your palms are about to take all your body weight, so they need to be bare and unencumbered.
