Welcome to day one. This is the easiest day of the plan, and also the most important, because you're going to learn the absolute basics of mixing and baking, and you're going to get a real win at the end. We're not making sourdough or a towering layer cake today. We're making a simple batch of chocolate chip cookies. This is your orientation day, your proving ground, and your chance to get your hands dirty.

Before you do anything, let's talk about what you'll feel today. You're probably a little nervous or maybe a little skeptical. That's fine. You might be worried you'll mess it up, or that it's too complicated, or that you'll find out you're 'bad' at it. Here's the secret: baking is not a talent, it's a sequence of steps. You follow the steps, and you get the result. It's science you can eat. Today we're just following the steps for a very forgiving recipe.

First, let's talk about your kitchen. You don't need anything fancy. You need a large mixing bowl (any big bowl will do), a smaller bowl, a measuring cup for liquids, and a set of measuring cups and spoons for dry ingredients.
