Ski and snowboard goggles are engineered optical and protective systems designed to solve a specific, demanding problem: allowing riders to see clearly and safely across rapid changes in light intensity, snow reflection, weather, and terrain contrast while protecting their eyes from ultraviolet radiation, cold wind, and impact. The Core Problem Goggles Solve
Riding in snow presents a set of optical challenges that regular eyeglasses or sunglasses do not address. Snow reflects between 80 and 90 percent of incoming sunlight, depending on whether it is fresh powder, compacted, or icy. This creates two simultaneous problems: extreme glare and rapid, unpredictable changes in available light.
On a clear day at mid-elevation, a rider moving from tree-shaded terrain into open slopes experiences a sudden jump in light intensity from approximately 5,000 lux in shadow to 20,000 or more lux in bright sun reflected off snow. The human eye can adapt to this range, but the process takes time—typically 20 to 30 seconds—and adaptation is incomplete because the snow glare and the sky glare come from different angles and intensities simultaneously. Without optical filtering, a rider descending into bright terrain will
