The most common form resembles a hand-crank device, with a handle or lever that the user operates to draw laces tighter, but the category also includes lever-based single-pull models, fixed-tension spring devices, and automated systems that apply a predetermined amount of force. The essential function is identical across all variants: to reduce the physical effort required to achieve tight, consistent lacing, and to maintain that tension throughout a skating session.
