A screw post is a threaded fastening component—typically cylindrical, with internal or external threads—that serves as a spacer, alignment guide, or threaded anchor point in assembly applications. Unlike a machine screw, which threads directly into material, a screw post is often pre-installed into a component (such as a printed circuit board, plastic housing, or metal bracket) where it then accepts another screw or bolt. It sits between two parts, maintaining spacing and providing a secure threaded point for fastening.

To understand why screw posts matter, consider a practical scenario: you are designing an electronic device with a plastic housing and internal metal bracket. The bracket needs to be mounted at a precise distance from the housing, and the two pieces must be fastened together with screws. You have three options. First, you could drill holes in both the plastic and the bracket, then drive machine screws through the plastic into threads cut directly in the metal. Second, you could tap threads in the plastic housing itself, which is difficult, unreliable, and damages easily. Third, you could install screw posts into one component ahead of time—say, into the metal bracket—so that when you assemble the device, you simply align the plastic housing and drive screws into the waiting posts. The posts have already been installed under controlled conditions with the correct torque and depth.
