Push and pull toys are wheeled or rolling toys designed to be propelled or dragged by a child—typically a toddler between 12 and 36 months old, though the category extends into preschool years and is used in some occupational therapy settings with older children. They are simple machines, fundamentally, yet their design, mechanics, and role in early development contain enough variation and complexity to warrant systematic understanding rather than casual browsing of product photos.

At their core, push and pull toys operate on a straightforward principle: a child applies force—either pushing with their legs and body weight, or pulling with arm strength—to overcome rolling resistance and move the toy forward.
