An overhead projector is a simple, durable presentation device that projects an image from a transparent sheet (called a transparency or film) onto a wall or screen. It works by mounting a specially designed lens and mirror above a flat glass stage where you place the transparency. A lamp inside the housing shines light up through the transparency; that light reflects off an angled mirror and passes through the lens before hitting the screen. The image appears larger than the original transparency, usually between 3 and 10 times the size of the source material, depending on the lens and the distance from the projector to the screen.
The essential appeal of the overhead projector is its simplicity and reliability. Unlike digital projectors, which require computers, software, video cables, and frequent driver updates, an overhead projector needs only a transparency and electricity.
