What a Motion Sensor Does
A motion sensor is a device that detects physical movement in a space and generates an electrical signal when movement occurs. That signal is typically fed to a control panel or smart device, which then executes a programmed action: activate an alarm siren, unlock a door, log an event with a timestamp, or flip a relay that supplies power to a light fixture.
The sensor itself does not decide what to do with the motion it detects. It only detects the motion and signals that an event has occurred. Everything that happens after that signal depends on how the sensor is wired or networked and what control logic is configured
