A GPS receiver, by itself, is an incomplete tool. It is a radio, and like any radio, it is only as useful as the antenna connected to it, the power feeding it, the cable carrying its signal, and the structure holding it in place. The term "GPS Accessories" encompasses this entire supporting ecosystem: the active elements that receive and condition the satellite signal, the passive components that transmit it to the receiver, the mechanical systems that position and protect the hardware, and the data and power infrastructure that keeps it running. Understanding this ecosystem is not an academic exercise. Your accuracy, reliability, and even your legal liability depend on getting these pieces right.
Consider a concrete example: a surveyor using a high-precision RTK rover. The receiver is a sophisticated computer capable of centimeter-level accuracy. But it is plugged into an external antenna mounted on a 2-meter survey pole. The antenna is connected to the receiver via a 5-meter coaxial cable. There is an in-line amplifier at the antenna base to compensate for cable loss, and the entire assembly is powered by a 12-volt rechargeable battery worn on the surveyor's belt.
