A fondue set is not a single appliance; it is a carefully coordinated system of interdependent components. The accessories that come with a set, or are purchased separately, are not decorative additions. They are the functional elements that control heat, food safety, service, and enjoyment. To understand fondue set accessories, one must first understand the physical process of fondue service. It is a method of communal dining where food is cooked, coated, or dipped in a shared pot of melted cheese, chocolate, oil, or broth. The objective is to keep that pot at a precise, sustained temperature and to get the food from the container to the user's mouth, or back into the pot, safely and efficiently.

Every accessory supports one of three primary functional jobs. The first job is heat management. This includes the heat source itself, typically a burner or hot plate, and the stand that stabilizes the pot above it. The second job is containment. This is the pot, and its material, size, and construction define how evenly heat is distributed and how well the temperature is retained. The third job is handling and transfer. This includes the long-handled forks, spoons, skewers, and the ancillary tools like splash guards and ladles that allow consumers to interact with the hot contents.
