What a Floor Cleaner Does
A floor cleaner is a motorized machine that applies pressurized water, usually mixed with a cleaning solution, to a floor surface and then extracts the liquid along with the suspended dirt back into a collection tank. The mechanism is straightforward: a pump draws water from a clean-water tank, pressurizes it, and forces it through nozzles onto the floor. Simultaneously, a motor-driven brush or pad agitates the surface, loosening embedded dirt and dust. A separate vacuum motor then pulls the contaminated water back through a recovery port into a dirty-water tank.
The machines vary in size, power, and configuration. A small upright floor cleaner designed for a residential living room might have a 2-gallon clean-water tank and operate at 60 pounds per square inch (psi) of water pressure.
