At its core, an e-book reader battery is a lithium-ion energy storage device designed to fit within the specific physical and electrical constraints of an e-reader. While this definition is simple, the product category is surprisingly narrow and highly specific. Unlike a smartphone battery that must sustain hours of active, bright, processor-heavy use, an e-book reader battery is engineered for a different paradigm: long, low-drain operation with infrequent recharging cycles. To understand what these batteries are, you must first understand the devices they power.
