Double eyelid glue and tape is the common name for a category of cosmetic adhesives and adhesive-coated films applied to the upper eyelid to create, enhance, or define a crease where one is absent or faint. The products themselves are simple: a polymer-based adhesive, either liquid or pre-applied to a backing strip. The context in which they are used is anything but simple. They operate on a mobile, thin-skinned surface that expresses moisture, responds to the body's immune system, and is exposed to environmental stress from humidity, temperature, and friction from rubbing and blinking.

To understand what these products actually are, it helps to start with the anatomy they are modifying. The upper eyelid skin is among the thinnest on the body, typically 0.5 to 1.0 millimeter thick, compared to roughly 2 to 3 millimeters on the rest of the face. Below it lies the levator aponeurosis, the tendon that lifts the eyelid. In some eyes, fibers of this tendon insert into the skin directly, creating the visible fold we call a double eyelid, or supratarsal crease.
