Diving and snorkeling fins are propulsion devices. Their only function is to move a person through water more efficiently than legs alone could manage. The foot pocket's fit and construction determine comfort during extended wear and whether the fin is suitable for bare feet or requires neoprene booties. The strap system determines whether the fin can be quickly donned and removed and how securely it stays attached during active diving or snorkeling.
