How Breast Pumps Work: Suction and Cycling
All breast pumps operate on two fundamental mechanical principles: suction and cycling. These two actions work together to remove milk from the breast.
Suction is a pressure difference. When a pump applies suction, it creates negative pressure—a drop in air pressure—against the breast and nipple. This pressure difference draws milk from the milk ducts into the collection container.
