A bowling wrist support is an external device worn on the wrist and forearm to stabilize the wrist joint during the bowling delivery, reduce stress on the tendons and ligaments, and maintain consistent release angles shot after shot. Unlike a general sports wrist brace, which typically manages broad categories of sprains or inflammation, a bowling wrist support is engineered for a specific biomechanical task: maintaining the wrist in a controlled position through the moment the ball leaves the bowler's fingers.

To understand why this specificity matters, it helps to understand what happens to the wrist during a bowling delivery. When a bowler swings the ball backward and then forward, the wrist begins in a relatively neutral position. As the ball accelerates downward toward the release point, forces build along three axes: the wrist can bend backward (extension), forward (flexion), and rotate inward (pronation) or outward (supination). In a controlled release, the bowler's wrist maintains a stable angle—typically slight extension or neutral—while the fingers impart spin and direction to the ball. In an uncontrolled release, the wrist can collapse into flexion, rotate unexpectedly, or move laterally, causing the ball to skid erratically down the lane and placing sudden tensile and compressive stress on the supporting soft tissues.
