Every serious billiard player has experienced the same problem: a bridge hand that sticks, grabs, or drags mid-stroke. This friction is the fundamental problem the billiard glove solves. It is a mechanical interface, not a fashion statement. Its sole purpose is to provide a low-friction, consistent, and stable surface between the cue shaft and the player's bridge hand, allowing for a smooth, straight stroke even in high-humidity conditions or during intense, sweaty matches.

A billiard glove is colloquially known as a glove for the "bridge" hand, which is the hand that rests on the table and guides the cue. For a right-handed player, this is the left hand. It is not worn on the grip hand. The glove typically covers the palm, the back of the hand, and the fingers, but leaves the index finger and thumb exposed. This design is deliberate: the exposed index finger and thumb are used for feeling the ball and fine tip positioning. The glove's material is a blend of spandex, lycra, or neoprene, engineered to be form-fitting and to reduce friction against the cue shaft.

To understand why the glove matters, you have to understand the physics of the stroke. The body of the cue stick weighs between 15 and 25 ounces.
