What is a bicycle jersey? At its core, a bicycle jersey is a tight-fitting shirt engineered to manage moisture, regulate temperature, and optimize aerodynamics and fit during cycling. Unlike casual athletic wear, a jersey is designed around the specific posture and movement patterns of cycling: the forward lean of the torso, the repetitive arm and shoulder motion, and the need to carry weight on the hips via a saddle. Every element—fabric composition, seam placement, panel construction, sleeve length, and pocket design—exists to serve performance, not fashion.

A cyclist on a 2-hour ride produces roughly 400-600 watts of sustained power and generates significant metabolic heat. At the same time, air moving across the body creates evaporative cooling. The jersey's job is to move sweat away from the skin (wicking), allow it to evaporate from the outer surface, and do this without trapping heat or moisture against the body. This is not a trivial problem. A jersey that fails at moisture management leaves the rider clammy, uncomfortable, and at risk of hypothermia if ambient temperature drops or intensity decreases. A jersey that retains heat builds core temperature dangerously, reducing performance and increasing fatigue.

The technical solution involves fabric construction and fiber selection.
