A basketball hoop post is the entire structural assembly between the ground (or a wall) and the backboard. It is not just a metal pipe. It includes the vertical column, the mounting plate or sleeve, the backboard bracket and offset arms, and any internal mechanisms for height adjustment or articulation. When a player dunks, the rim, backboard, and arms all transmit force into the post. The post then transmits that force into the ground or mounting surface. If the post is undersized, improperly anchored, or corroded, the entire system fails - often at the worst possible moment.
