An adapter is a device that bridges two incompatible interfaces, connectors, or electrical standards. At its simplest, it is a piece of molded plastic, metal, and conductors that maps pins, signals, or power from one connector to another. At its most complex, it contains active electronics that convert or translate signals between entirely different standards.
