A company might call on an industrial engineer to observe the flow, track how long each step takes, map out where the shelves and packing stations are, and then recommend a new layout or a new process. Maybe the solution is moving the packing stations closer to the shipping dock. Maybe it's redesigning how boxes are labeled so workers don't have to search for the right shelf. Maybe it involves a new conveyor system. The industrial engineer's job is to find out what to change and prove that the change will actually help.
