Let's start with the truth: a Wind Energy Operations Manager does not spend their day standing at the base of a turbine, watching the blades spin. That is a nice image for a brochure, but the real job happens in a control room, a maintenance office, and a pickup truck. You are the person who makes sure the wind farm keeps producing electricity, safely and profitably, day after day. That means you are part engineer, part logistics coordinator, part safety officer, and part accountant. If you like a job where you can predict exactly what tomorrow will bring, this is not it. Your core responsibility is simple to state and hard to execute: maximize the amount of time the turbines are generating power. The wind industry calls this "availability," and it is measured as a percentage. A well-run wind farm might hit 97% or 98% availability, meaning the turbines are ready to produce electricity almost all the time. When a turbine is down for maintenance or because of a fault, that is lost revenue. It is your job to minimize that downtime. On a typical day, you start by looking at a computer screen that shows you the status of every turbine in your fleet - often 50 to 150 machines spread across a large area.
