Let's start by clearing up a common confusion. The official title "Cutting, Punching, and Press Machine Setter, Operator, and Tender" is a mouthful, but it's really just a single job with three hats. You set up the machine, you run it, and you take care of it. In the real world, most people just call you a "press operator." You'll be working with machines that use extreme force to cut, shape, or punch holes in sheets of metal or plastic. Think of a giant cookie cutter that weighs two tons and comes down with enough pressure to slice through a quarter-inch steel plate like it's cardboard. That's your workstation.
Your primary tool is the press itself. There are a few main types you'll encounter.
