We need to start with a hard truth. If you are reading this, you have probably already tried to simplify your life. You have probably watched the documentaries about the evils of clutter. You have probably purchased the book on the art of Swedish death cleaning. You have maybe even used a system, a color-coded label maker, or a "one in, one out" rule. The common wisdom tells you to declutter your house, and then your mind will follow. It tells you to unplug from social media, and then you will find time. It tells you that travel will change you, if you can just find the money for it. But this advice misdiagnoses the problem. It treats simplification as the goal and travel as the reward.
