You have tried to eat better. Maybe you have tried many times. You have downloaded the app that logs every calorie. You have bought the cookbook with the beautiful photographs. You have started on Monday with a fridge full of kale and chicken breast, feeling motivated and in control. And then, on Wednesday night, at 8:47 PM, you are standing in front of the pantry, eating peanut butter out of the jar with your fingers. You are not hungry. You are not even enjoying it. But you cannot seem to stop.

This is not a failure of willpower. It is not a sign of a weak character. It is a symptom of a system that is fighting against you on a biological and psychological level that you are not consciously aware of.
